Hello friends, we are looking at the island of Puerto Rico. In the Caribbean Puerto Rico is a US territory and although it does not have statehood it has its own rights as a commonwealth there is debate by some of the people about whether they should be a state in the United States whether they should remain as a commonwealth or whether they should become totally independent on a republic.
Is Puerto Rico a US state?
See the video on YouTube.
Is Puerto Rico backed by the mainland?
While the debate goes on Puerto Rico does enjoy the U.S. dollar as its main currency and backing from the united states although some Puerto Ricans will argue that they don’t have the same rights and privileges as those on the mainland anyway Puerto Rico is east of the Dominican republic and west of the British Virgin Islands and U.S. Virgin Islands it has a unique history and played a big part in the development of the Caribbean.
History of Puerto Rico
Actually it used to be first populated by the Portuguese then the Spanish and during the US the American Spanish war the U.S. invaded and took it over and held it ever since then now Puerto Rico has a lot of beautiful beaches just like any island in the Caribbean and because of the um facilities and what not backed by the US there’s a lot to look forward to for those from the US mainland to come to Puerto Rico to stay however because of the U.S. visa requirements for people who are non-citizens Puerto Rico has not really integrated itself with the rest of Caribbean islands as there’s free travel among those islands so this is beautiful Puerto Rico beautiful people feel free to give your comments about what you think about Puerto Rico if you have been there and what you think about the division between it becoming a state I mean in a commonwealth or becoming its own independent country… thanks for watching!
